Leroy Seafood has invested in a new freezing system from individual quick freezing (IQF) equipment specialist, Starfrost, enabling the seafood processor to increase production by more than 30%.
UK manufacturer Starfrost previously installed a spiral freezer for Leroy Seafood more than 18 years ago who once again turned to the company when demand for its fish fillet products increased. The newly installed Helix spiral freezer has a 50% larger belt area and has been designed to operate with the same fan power, resulting in a significant increase in output with no increase in energy use.
Ronny Holen, engineering manager at Leroy Seafood discussed the company’s plans to expand. “When we required more capacity of our seafood products, it was a great opportunity to invest in a new freezing system that featured the latest in IQF technology, bringing benefits to both our business and our customers,” he said.
“Our newly installed spiral freezer is fully automated and operates continuously. This has allowed a reduction in production hours and labour while delivering a much greater production capacity of more than 30% of our seafood products,” he added.
The freezer features a Clean in Place system that delivers automated cleaning and sanitising throughout the freezing system with a substantial reduction in water usage. Capable of freezing 1,100kg per hour of vacuum-packed fish fillets, the system has IQF airflow technology which delivers a consistent freeze to the seafood products.
