The company told the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries that it aims to achieve annual production of 13,000 tonnes a year within five years, which would equate to revenues of US$ 65 million. The main export markets are expected to be Japan, United States, China and Europe, while they see potential for the domestic market, which is currently served by imports from Chile.
The company is looking to develop the project in the Limay Basin Reservoir, in the provinces of Neuquén and Rio Negro.
“We are pleased to receive these kinds of initiatives that allow our country to be more visible at a global level, following the world trend of boosting this sector. This is an innovative project that puts in value and seeks to generate a new window of Argentina to the world,” Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Carlos Liberman, is quoted as saying in Noticias Financieras.
“We take aquaculture very seriously, we have hired technicians, we are training people, we are touring the provinces and we are calling companies to invest, it is a business that will open doors and bring us great results,” he concluded.
Meanwhile the director of Newsan Food, Miguel Glikman, is quoted as saying that: “It is estimated that aquaculture will be the main source of animal protein supply for the year 2050, when the world’s population exceeds 9 billion people”.
“For us it is an opportunity to accompany the development of the activity with new investments,” he added.
The company aims to increase production gradually over the next five years, to ensure it develops sustainably and in line with environmental regulations.
