THE spotlight will focus on aquaculture as a varied and rewarding career opportunity next week.
Hosted by the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) in collaboration with the Lochabar Chamber of Commerce, a special one day free event on Wednesday,
November 17th will cover career challenges and opportunities as well as highlighting some of the sustainable innovations under development.
Speakers include Tavish Scott from Salmon Scotland, Isabel Vincent from the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre and Craig Fleming from satellite communications experts R3-loT.
The morning session on innovations and sustainability will also include an impressive line up including Yusuke Yamasaki from Uhuru United UK and Chris Matthews from PHARMAQ Analytiq.
Some of the topics being covered include developing new apprenticeships in aquaculture, the global adoption of algal oil as a new source of Omega-3, fish health diagnostics and reducing reliance on fossil fuels by adding value to fish waste.
Anyone with an interest in aquaculture is invited to join the event, which is free, with the aim of highlighting the skills required to fuel growth as well as shining the spotlight on skills on some of the emerging ideas and processes that could transform fish farming.
Mary Fraser, head of skills and talent at SAIC, said: “Aquaculture is thriving sector, offering careers in some of Scotland’s most remote and stunning locations.
“Encouraging new talent to consider getting into the sector and raising awareness for cross-industry collaboration with other professions is crucial to the future growth and development of what is one of Scotland’s valuable and high growth sectors.”
She added: “Through the Ideas Week session, we hope to raise awareness of the range of opportunities that can be open to anyone, whatever their background of level of experience.
Lochabar Ideas Week also includes a programme of events to inspire, educate and motivate the business and wider community of Lochabar and the Highlands.
