After being shortlisted as one of three finalists in June, VAKI has been recognised at this year’s Aqua Nor event.

VAKI, an aquaculture portfolio of digital products within MSD Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co., has been awarded runner-up in the Innovation Award category for its SmartFlow system with density control.

“We have invested a significant amount of research into this mechanism, which monitors, controls and automates fish density to maximise fish welfare and enhance grading, vaccination and counting,” said Gareth Hammond, VAKI area manager at MSD Animal Health UK.

“Being shortlisted comes at a time when VAKI is moving from strength to strength to further develop our innovative equipment and technology, to aid data collection, analysis, and fish health throughout each stage of production.”

The 21 entrants from 12 nations had to demonstrate how their innovations would benefit the environment or fish health, or lead to economical gain.

“Industry recognition such as the Aqua Nor 2021 Innovation Award nomination is proof of MSD Animal Health’s commitment to continuously develop unique products and technology for our customers which are at the forefront of shaping preventative disease control to further improve animal health and welfare,” concluded Rebecca Rivara, business unit director for integrated livestock at MSD Animal Health UK.
