The first ever hybrid propulsion live fish carrier will be powered by Yanmar engines.
Built by Larsnes Mek. Verksted, the Ro Vision, will have three Yanmar 6EY22ALW diesel generators integrated with a 600kW battery pack from Siemens which together will provide power for onboard systems and the electric propulsion system.
“Yanmar engines are easy to install and accessible for maintenance,” said Jarle Gunnarstein, chief executive of Larsnes Mek. Verksted. “Moreover, they are economical, have low emissions and a long lifespan, which is often a decisive factor for our customers, such as ship owners and designers.”
Designed by Skipskompetanse, the 84.2m vessel was awarded the prestigious Ship of the Year award in 2020 for its technology and design. New boats are being built with increasing concern for the condition of the live fish, the welfare of the crew and the environment.
The Ro Vision has been developed with a strong focus on increased safety and lower emissions and is equipped with a selective catalytic reduction system to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.
